October 29, 2017 - Tarleton State University ROTC cadets cross the finish line during the 10-mile ruck march event at the end of the U.S Army ROTC Ranger Challenge competition held at Fort Hood, Texas. October 30, 2017 - Maj. Gen. Carl E. Mundy III, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command commander, awards the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" to Staff Sgt. Patrick H. Maloney, multi-purpose canine handler with 2D Marine Raider Battalion, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in August 2016, Maloney exposed himself to enemy fire to employ a heavy machinegun mounted in an open truck bed during an enemy ambush. Despite two weapon malfunctions, Maloney effectively suppressed and disrupted the ambush, allowing Raiders to repel the attackers. Maj. Gen. Mundy presented the award on behalf of the President. October 31, 2017 - U.S. Navy Operations Specialist 2nd Class Jacob Owen, assigned to Coastal Riverine Squadron (CRS) 2, mans an M240G machine gun aboard a MK VI patrol boat while providing high value asset protection for the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt as it transits (CVN 71) to Apra Harbor, Guam. CRS-2, assigned to Coastal Riverine Group (CRG) 1 Detachment Guam, is capable of conducting maritime security operations across the full spectrum of naval, joint and combined operations. Further, it provides additional capabilities of port security, embarked security, and theater security cooperation around the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. November 3, 2017 - NASA astronaut Jack Fischer speaks about his time onboard the International Space Station (ISS) during Expeditions 51/52 at Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington. During Expedition 52, Fischer completed hundreds of scientific experiments and two spacewalks, and concluded his 136-day mission when he landed in a remote area near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan in September 2017.
