On April 18, 2013, Corporal Michael Toomey received the Bronze Star
Medal with a Combat V for valor for actions during a deployment to
Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.
Toomey lead an
ambush against an insurgent machine gun team. His aggressive assault
caused the enemy to flee and give up the fight against the Marines.
