U.S. Marine Corps 1st Sgt. Curtis Rice, company first sergeant, Food Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group,
receives the Bronze Star Medal with a combat distinguishing device at Camp Pendleton, Calif., May 24,
2011 for heroic actions in the Uzbin Valley of eastern Afghanistan, where he helped prevent an Afghan National Army observation post from being overrun by approximately 50 enemy combatants. According to the citation, Rice bravely faced enemy fire to resupply ammunition and fix a M240 machine gun. His actions helped prevent the deaths of Marines, Special Forces soldiers and Afghan National Army soldiers.
