Why I'm A Patriot I am Skyler Clark! I love our nation ... because of the veterans who served our country. Veterans have given me the opportunity to hunt and fish with them. I have gotten to learn history through my time fishing with veterans ... the people who have actually lived it. A 101 year-old veteran named Bud Mayfield was in the Battle of Bulge World War II, where rotten food was thrown at him after getting off the plane arriving home ... I was angry, because he served our country to protect us! At age seven, I decided to make necklaces and keychains for veterans. It was my goal to meet as many veterans as I could. I wanted to show veterans young people care about their sacrifices. I want to continue to meet and appreciate veterans and learn more about what they have gone through. I would like to show younger generations the opportunities that can be had by meeting a veteran and hearing their story. My cousin, Robert Clark, who was in the Air Force, signed himself up and made a career out of the military. He was a mechanic. He taught me ... you could make a job out of the military and be happy doing it! I have a boat to take veterans fishing and hunting now ... and hope to take as many as I can ... to relax and make them happy! |
