Information about the USO, Stars For Stripes, and AFE

USO (United Service Organizations)

Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO has been a bridge between the American people and the U.S. military.  In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to service members and their families.  A nonprofit, congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support USO activities.  The USO is not part of the U.S. Government but is supported by the President of the United States and the Department of Defense. Each President has been the Honorary Chairman of the USO since its inception.

The USO mission is to provide morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress—and enduring style of USO delivery—is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military.

Stars For Stripes

Stars For Stripes is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality entertainment to internationally deployed U.S. military forces. Working in conjunction with Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE), Stars For Stripes strives to take quality, celebrity entertainment into the remote sites where the troops need the moral boost the most.

AFE (Armed Forces Entertainment)

Established in 1951, Armed Forces Entertainment fields over 1,200 celebrity and non-celebrity shows around the world each year for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. As the single point of contract with the Department of Defense for entertainment, Armed Forces Entertainment is unparalleled in bringing outstanding entertainers to some of the most remote military installations overseas.

The sole mission of AFE is to provide free, quality, live professional entertainment to our troops and family members stationed overseas, with priority to remote and isolated locations, ships at sea, and contingency operations. Broken into circuits, Armed Forces Entertainment services over 270 military installations in the Pacific, Europe, Balkans, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Southwest Asia.
