Juneteenth June 19th
Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the emancipation of slaves by President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War in 1862 ... with it officially becoming a federal holiday on June 17, 2021 ... giving it national recognition. In fact, the first Juneteenth commemoration occurred on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers informed a group of enslaved people in Texas that they had been made free two years earlier. Throughout history, Juneteenth has been known by many names ... Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, Liberation Day, Emancipation Day. Image created by USA Patriotism! from U.S. Army graphic by Sgt.
