"Overall, the day was quite an eye-opener for my son. He knows many people
who have served in the military and he attends school in the same town as an
Army Base so he is constantly meeting military people. After this trip to
Arlington and a subsequent trip to Quantico to see the Marine Corp Museum and
visit the Quantico Cemetery he has a much greater respect and admiration for
them. I think it is so important that we raise our next generation to
understand the importance of the military to keep our freedoms in place. They
can read all the textbooks they want but until they see first hand the number of
graves it doesn't register in their minds that many people died while protecting
them and their rights.
Schools should not only teach from texts but take their classes to local
Veterans Cemeteries so they can experience the same eye-opening moment as my son
did."
