July 30, 2026 - Scenes of the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment (HCD) during a cavalry demonstration at Fort Hood, Texas. The detachment holds weekly public demonstrations to showcase traditional mounted tactics and weapons proficiency to preserve Army heritage. Activated in 1972, the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment, based at Fort Hood Texas, is an active-duty ceremonial equestrian unit that portrays an 1870s-era "horse soldier" troop to preserve the traditions and history of the U.S. Army's mounted cavalry.
