Sailors Shift Colors On USS Nimitz April 5, 2026
April 2, 2026 - U.S. Sailors salute as a fellow sailor lowers Old Glory during Shift Colors on the flight deck of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the waters outside Panama City, Panama after a scheduled port visit. Shift Colors is the ceremonial changing of flag displays when a ship moves from moored (in port) to underway (leaving port). The national ensign moves from the stern (fantail) to the mast (gaff), and the union jack is lowered from the bow. Nimitz is deployed as apart of Southern Seas 2026 which seeks to enhance capability, improve interoperability and strengthen maritime partnerships with countries throughout the region through joint multinational and interagency exchanges and cooperation.
