Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial at the National Mall and Memorial Parks that recognizes and honors the enormous impact Dr. King had on our nation and history, who is also honored annually on the third Monday of January ... a National Day of Service. A 1959 quotation from Dr. King is carved into the walls of his memorial on the National Mall ... "Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."

For more than 200 years, the National Mall and Memorial Parks has symbolized our nation and its democratic values, which have inspired the world. It protects the National Mall, the great swath of over 1,000 green space acres in the middle of Washington, D.C. along with the iconic monuments and memorials.
