A beautiful scenic sunset view of the rugged Sierra del Carmen (so-called "sky island") ... an isolated range that begins at the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park and extends into Mexico for about 45 miles with elevations increase toward the south culminating with heights of more than 8,000 feet and a maximum of 8,920 feet. From an elevation of less than 1,800 feet along the Rio Grande to nearly 8,000 feet in the Chisos Mountains, the Big Bend National Park (located in Southwest Texas) includes massive canyons, vast desert expanses, forested mountains, and the ever-changing Rio Grande River. Visitors enjoy scenic vistas, diverse wildlife, outdoor adventure, historic sites, dark skies, and border culture.
