Canary Spring Overlook Sunset View February 10, 2025
A stunning Yellowstone National Park sunset view from the Canary Spring Overlook in Mammoth Hot Springs with snow covered mountains in the horizon. The Canary Spring is one of several smaller springs in Mammoth Hot Springs. The spring's colors come from thermophiles, which are microscopic organisms that love heat. There are many different species of thermophiles, and each species produces a different color. For example, colorless and yellow thermophiles live in the hottest water, while orange, brown, and green thermophiles live in cooler water. The vibrant pinks and neons are sometimes seen at the Canary Spring that occasionally goes dormant for brief periods of time. On March 1, 1872, Yellowstone became the first national park for all to enjoy the unique hydrothermal and geologic wonders. People from around the world have been drawn to Yellowstone to witness these wonders for themselves. Now, millions of people come to Yellowstone each year to make lifelong memories of watching erupting geysers, roaming wildlife, and the artistry of thermophiles.
