Hawkeyes Takeoff, Fly Above CVN 71 May 17, 2024 May 13, 2024 - E-2D Hawkeyes, assigned to the “Liberty Bells” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 115, takeoff and fly above the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) during a VAW-115 change of command ceremony with U.S. Navy Cmdr. Charles Diehl assuming command from Cmdr. Glenn Smith. Theodore Roosevelt, flagship of Carrier Strike Group Nine, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
