Marines Approach Beach, Provide Security March 17, 2024 March 11, 2024 - U.S. Marine Corps scout swimmers with Battalion Landing Team 1/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, approach the beach with combat rubber raiding craft boats behind them with another scout swimmer (bottom) providing security shortly afterwards during a bi-lateral boat raid exercise on Okinoerabu, Japan. The 31st MEU and the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade used the boat raid exercise to rehearse rapid seizure of key maritime terrain during Iron Fist 24. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
