Stunning View Of Big Balanced Rock March 1, 2024 A stunning view of Big Balanced Rock that is one of the most famous rocks among the "Wonderland of Rocks" at Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. The small balancing bottom part of the massive rock is only 5 feet across. It is located near the Heart of Rocks Loop that involves a strenuous round trip hike of at least 7.3 miles. Chiricahua National Monument is an 8-mile paved scenic drive and 17-miles of day-use hiking trails that provide opportunities to discover the beauty, natural sounds, and the Chiricahua Indian tribe that is one of several tribes known collectively as the Eastern Apache. By far the most noticeable natural features in the park are the rhyolite rock pinnacles for which the monument was created to protect. Rising sometimes hundreds of feet into the air, many of these pinnacles are balancing on a small base, seemingly ready to topple over at any time. Other geologic features of the park include shallow caves, faults, mountain formations, ancient lava flows, and the giant 12 mile wide volcanic Turkey Creek Caldera.
