USCG Cutter Tampa Transits Florida Straits February 17, 2024 February 4, 2024 - U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tampa (WMEC 902) transits the Florida Straits under a sunset coated sky in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry. Tampa is homeported in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Tampa can travel more than 3,800 miles before refilling the 83,000 gallons of diesel fuel tanks. The Tampa is propelled by two 3,500 horsepower diesel engines turning two 9-foot diameter controllable pitch propellers.
