USCGC Polar Star Crew's Ice Liberty January 8, 2024
December 29, 2023 - The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) enjoys ice liberty on the fast ice in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica including ... standing in front of the cutter; "rope towing" the cutter; encountering a curious Adélie penguin; and, lowering themselves into the water while practicing ice rescue techniques. Every year, a joint and total force team works together to complete a successful Operation Deep Freeze season. Active, Guard, and Reserve service members from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and Navy work together to forge a strong JTF-SFA that continues the tradition of U.S. military support to the United States Antarctic Program.
