Soldiers Climb Steep Cliff Wall September 23, 2023
September 18, 2023 - Stunning view of U.S. Army soldiers with the 1-87th Infantry Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI) reaching the upper most part of the climb on one of the steep cliff walls of the Rhodope Mountain Range that overlooks Smolyan, Bulgaria during Combined Training Exercise Rhodope 23 (CTR23). The soldier near the top is preparing to rappel down the wall, while the other ones will do the same once near the top. The soldiers complex climb includes changing from vertical to horizontal movements. CTR23 is hosted by the Bulgarian Land Forces, 101st Alpine Regiment in Smolyan, Bulgaria and is comprised of U.S. Army Soldiers of the 1-87th Infantry Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), as well as Soldiers from the Italian Army and the Army of the Czech Republic. CTR23 is a Mountain Warfare training exercise, which trains tactics and procedures in Mountain areas, survivability, mobility, and sustainability at the company level.
