Super Hornet Contrail Fly Over September 17, 2023
September 13, 2023 - U.S. Navy CDR Christopher Keen, off-going commanding officer of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213, and U.S. Navy Capt. Rick Burgess, commanding officer of the world's largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), fly over the flight deck in an F/A-18F Super Hornet shrouded in its contrail during an airborne change of command ceremony. VFA-213 is deployed aboard CVN 78 as part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8. The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area of operations, employed by U.S. Sixth Fleet to defend U.S., allied, and partner interests.
