USMC Viper Helo's Scenic Flight September 14, 2023 September 9, 2023 - An amazing scenic view of a U.S. Marine Corps AH-1Z Viper being flown by a pilot with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during pre-exercise flights before a combined arms live-fire exercise as part of Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS23) at Wisata Kawah Ijen, Indonesia. The flights focused on meeting the requirements to support the CALFEX, while validating tactics, techniques, and procedures for the use of joint expeditionary advanced bases in providing offensive air support to joint and coalition partners beyond standard ranges. Marines train closely with allies and joint partners to enhance our collective capabilities, readiness, and effectiveness in preparation for any crisis or contingency in the future. Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS23 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the seven participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
