Marines Fast Rope Security July 21, 2023 July 19, 2023 - U.S. Marines with the Maritime Special Purpose Force, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable, set security while conducting a fast-rope insertion from a UH-1Y Venom during a visit, board, search, and seizure training continuum aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) in the Atlantic Ocean. Fast-roping is a tactical maneuver used to quickly insert troops into austere terrain in which a helicopter may not be able to land. The 26th MEU(SOC), embarked with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, is on a scheduled deployment and remains ready to act as the Nation’s Immediate Response Force within the Fifth and Sixth Fleet’s areas of responsibility.
