USS Ashland Arrives At Homeport San Diego April 25, 2023
April 20, 2023 - Amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) arrives in San Diego, California for a scheduled homeport shift. Ashland shifted homeports from Sasebo to San Diego after serving as a forward-deployed ship in U.S. 7th Fleet since August 2013. The U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest of the U.S. Navy's forward-deployed fleets. At any given time there are 50-70 ships and submarines, 150 aircraft, and more than 27,000 Sailors and Marines in the U.S. 7th Fleet. Its area of operations encompasses 36 maritime countries and 50% of the world’s population ... covering more than 48 million square miles (124 million square kilometers) ... stretching from the International Date Line to the India/Pakistan border; and from the Kuril Islands in the North to the Antarctic in the South.
