The Loch In Rocky Mountain NP April 6, 2023
A captivating view with hikers in shorts enjoying the well sought-after destination ... The Loch (Scottish for 'lake') ... surrounded by snow peaks with scattered snow blankets in the Continental Divide within Rocky Mountain National Park. The Loch is one of the three spectacular lakes comprising the scenic rich Loch Vale. The 5.4-mile-long trail to The Loch is a moderate hike with a total elevation gain of 940 feet through several switchbacks. Accessed via the Glacier Gorge Trailhead, hikers begin the approach to The Loch through aspen groves and cross two bridges that lead to Alberta Falls, another popular destination in the park. The trail continues to Mills Junction, a major trail junction between Loch Vale and Glacier Gorge trails. Past the junction, switchbacks are common and lead hikers through an impressively scenic gorge. Rocky Mountain National Park includes some of the highest mountains in the continental United States. The top third of the park encompasses the alpine tundra, a windswept land above the trees. Landscapes on either side of the Continental Divide feature alpine lakes, forested valleys and a wide range of plants and animals. Iconic summer thunderstorms and persistent winter winds are among the forces that continue to shape this majestic landscape. Image created by USA Patriotism! from U.S. National Park Service photo.
