Marines Fire M224 Mortar System February 24, 2023 February 20, 2023 - U.S. Marines from Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, fire a M224 60 mm mortar system while conducting a bilateral mortar live-fire exercise with soldiers from the 1st Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force during Iron Fist 23 at Hijudai, Japan. The live-fire exercise was conducted to establish an understanding of each other’s operating procedures. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
