Atmospheric Rivers Flight January 15, 2023
January 11, 2023 - U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Zach McDermott, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron pilots, flies the WC-130J Super Hercules aircraft over the the Pacific Ocean Basin during an Atmospheric Rivers mission out of Mather Air Field, California. Atmospheric Rivers account for most of the horizontal moisture transport outside of the tropics. The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flies Atmospheric Rivers missions from January 1 through March 31 as a specific part of the National Winter Season Operations Plan.
