Denali Scenic Alpenglow December 26, 2022
The snow covered Denali mountain summit radiates a captivating scenic alpenglow view from a camp area near trees miles away. This optical phenomenon appears right before sunset or sunrise in the mountains when the solar disk is just below the horizon. Its scarlet or golden light shows up on the highest tips of peaks ... with the viewer needing to be in the alpine to really see what it means. Denali National Park and Preserve, a 6 million acre national park, in Alaska is home to Denali Mountain (also known as Mount McKinley, its former official name). Denali, North America’s tallest peak at 20,310 feet, is a mecca that enchants climbers, pack-rafters, skiers, dog mushers and athletes seeking to test themselves against the raw, unchecked power of a truly wild landscape. Trails in the park are near the park road, and mainly near the park entrance. Denali also offers visitors a rare opportunity to hike off trail in a wild landscape.
