Captivating View Of Mentasta Mountains, Valley October 21, 2022
Hikers standing at the edge of a mountain summit experience a captivating dynamic view of the Mentasta Mountains and valley that includes the extremely difficult multi-day Skookum Volcano to Rambler Mine Route and river decorated with nature's beautiful colors under the bright blue partly cloudy sky within the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The Wrangell Mountains are almost entirely volcanic in origin that include the second and third highest volcanoes in the United States, Mount Blackburn and Mount Sanford. The Wrangell Mountains comprise most of the Wrangell Volcanic Field, which also extends into the neighboring Saint Elias Mountains and the Yukon Territory in Canada. The Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a majestic scenic experience ... magnified by splendid isolation. It is the largest U.S. national park that equals six Yellowstones ... with peaks upon peaks and glaciers after glaciers. Follow any braided river or stream to its source and you will find either a receding, advancing, or tidewater glacier. The park also lets you sample representative Alaska wildlife and historic mining sites. Hike its mountains, float its rivers, ski its glaciers, or fly over this landscape and you witness living geology. Image created by USA Patriotism! from U.S. National Park Service photo.
