USCG Teams Transfer Sanibel Island Residents October 9, 2022 September 30, 2022 - U.S. Coast Guard personnel from the Gulf, Atlantic, and Pacific Strike teams transfer over 30 residents of Sanibel Island, Florida to the mainland so they can seek shelter and resources after Hurricane Ian. Hurricane Ian made landfall near Cayo Costa, an island off the coast of Fort Myers on September 26, 2022 along the southwestern coast of Florida around 3:05 p.m. ET as a Category 4 storm, with sustained winds near 150 mph.
