Lake Kontrashibuna Nestled Between Steep Mountains April 6, 2022
A riveting view of the 12.3 mile long, narrow Kontrashibuna Lake's clear blue headwaters nestled between steep mountains within the Lake Clark National Park in Alaska. The lake can be reached via its hike trail starting on the Tanalian Falls trail by continuing past the falls to the shore of Kontrashibuna Lake. The official trail ends at the lake, but a brushed, unmaintained social trail continues along the lake’s north shore. Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is comprised of 4 million acres on the Alaska Peninsula in southwest Alaska. It is a land of stunning beauty and one of the nation's most remote national park units. Volcanoes steam, salmon run, bears forage, and craggy mountains reflect in shimmering turquoise lakes. Lake Clark offers excellent opportunities for adventure, exploration, learning, and just plain having fun. Image created by USA Patriotism! from U.S. National Park Service photo by Shay Hurd.
