USS Nimitz Fires Phalanx March 25, 2022
March 23, 2022 - U.S. Navy supercarrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) conducts a Phalanx close-in weapons system test fire at an undisclosed location in association with conducting routine operations in the Pacific Ocean. The Phalanx close-in weapon system (CIWS) is for defense against incoming threats such as small boats, surface torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, fixed wing aircraft, and helicopters.
