Saildrone Explorer USV January 30, 2022
January 27, 2022 - A Saildrone Explorer unmanned surface vessel (USV) sails in the Arabian Gulf off Bahrain’s coast. It is 23-foot-long, 16-foot-tall and reliant on wind power for propulsion. The USV houses a package of sensors powered through solar energy for building a shared picture of the surrounding seas. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command began operationally testing the USV as part of an initiative to integrate new unmanned systems and artificial intelligence into U.S. 5th Fleet operations.
