The entertainers on the Showboat Branson Belle stir the audience's pride with a patriotic performance saluting the troops and veterans during their early dinner show on November 7, 2015 ... which is in association with Veterans Week in Branson, MO. The must see show involved pitch-perfect Branson star, Cassandre Faimon-Haygood; the ShowMen accompanied by a live band; dance troupe, Rhythm; and, the masterful host, comedic genius and magician extraordinaire, Christopher James. The Legion hosted Evans and 84 recruits as part of an annual Adopt-A-Sailor program. The program allows local organizations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, like Arlington’s American Legion, to adopt eligible recruits from the Navy’s only boot camp, Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Great Lakes, Ill., to spend the day off base. Olson and Ostern are presenting the award at the request of family members, who are present for the ceremony being done in haste because of Tillman’s failing health. The award was received with the help of South Dakota Sen. John Thune's office. Tillman was originally a private and was promoted to sergeant serving in Company A, 1st Battalion, 152nd Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division in the Philippines at the time of his heroic actions. He was a gunner in a machine gun unit at Woodpecker Ridge, Luzon campaign, Philippines. According to a letter of commendation dated June 1945 to Col. Washington M. Ives Jr. of the 152nd Division from Maj. Gen. William C. Chase, “the 152nd Infantry advanced rapidly to Zig Zag Pass east of OLANGAPO and there attacked continuously ... your continued aggressive attack destroyed the greater part of the Japanese 39th Infantry Regiment which had been ordered to defend to the death in the Zig Zag Pass ... your own losses have been relatively light. December 17, 2015 - Sailors man the rails of the guided-missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90) as it returns to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam following an independent deployment to the Western Pacific. Deployed since May, the crew of more than 350 Sailors steamed a total of 42,000 nautical miles across the U.S. 3rd, 4th and 7th Fleet areas of operation. While deployed Chafee conducted various theater security operations and goodwill activities with partner nations. Chafee also escorted USS George Washington (CVN 73) during a Southern Sea deployment around South America and through the Straits of Magellan before the carrier's return to Norfolk, Va., this month.
