The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District hosted a deer hunt for the Outdoor Dream Foundation (ODF) at Richard B. Russell Lake Oct. 26, 2013. ODF is a non-profit organization based in Anderson, S.C., that provides outdoor adventures to children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses. The Corps' Savannah District has an active partnership with ODF to provide hunting and fishing opportunities on Corps-managed areas. Three young brothers, Jacob, Noah and Isaac Bowman (pictured front row from left to right) participated in the Oct. 26, 2013 deer hunt with help from ODF members and volunteers (pictured back row from left to right) Jonathan Jones, Brad Jones (Founder of Outdoor Dream), Jared McKinsey, Shannon McKinsey, and Greg Darnell. Rct. Andrew Hoesel, Platoon 1084, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, leads his team of recruits Oct. 24, 2013, during the Crucible at the combat training area on Parris Island, S.C. During this 54-hour culminating event, recruits such as Hoesel, an 18-year-old native of Depew, N.Y., must demonstrate that they have embraced the Marine Corps’ core values of honor, courage and commitment and the essence of their warrior ethos. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 1, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
