The picture in the photo was taken in April 2009 of my son, Artie at Arlington National Cemetery by me (Kathleen W Rodgers, Amelia, VA). My favorite aspect of this photo is the look in his eyes when he first turned to me and asked me "all of these graves are for people that died fighting for me?" From that moment on until we left and even most of the way home, he couldn't get over the fact that strangers were willing to go to war and fight and sacrifice their lives so that we could be free. He had heard all the stories in school. He had listened to tales we told of his grandads but seeing the endless slew of tombstones really opened his eyes to the reality of the situation. I believe that every American should experience this first hand and they will never be able to walk past a serviceman in uniform (or a veteran wearing any military insignia) without stopping to say a heartfelt thank you for their sacrifices. In church this morning we discussed John 15:13 and instantly I pictured this scene in my head and felt I had to share with others in hopes that ALL Americans will stop and thank our veterans for their service this year - each and every day, not just on Veterans Day! My thanks and the thanks of all of my family . . . go out to all those who serve or have served. Thank You with all my love! (Photo and story by Kathleen W Rodgers, Amelia, VA)
