  While
Andi Grant formally started
Give2TheTroops
in 2004 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, aimed at
supporting U.S. deployed and wounded troops in harm's
way with letters and care packages . . . her efforts
actually began a few years earlier for personal reasons.Andi Grant explains why...
"In December of 2002, my husband, Brian (Sgt. in
USMC) and his fellow Marine Reservists received their
one-year deployment orders for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As he packed and attended briefings, I decided that I,
too, needed to do something for the troops. I couldn't
sit back for a year and be a "spectator" - I needed to
do something to show my support. This caring, patriotic decision to continue with Give2TheTroops has resulted in supporting approximately ONE MILLION deployed U.S. troops with loving care packages and letters from all over the nation through 2011 . . . including more than 117,000 large boxes weighing approximately 70 pounds each and over 40 million letters and cards from caring citizens.
