Special Heartfelt Tribute
(October 31, 2009)
  A
week ago, I was proudly looking at a photo of my Marine son shaking
hands with Ret. Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North somewhere in Iraq during
the initial combat stage to remove Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Then I
found myself smiling at the thought of my attending several events at
Veterans Week (November 5 - 11,
2009)
in Branson, Missouri, where Oliver North will be. Hopefully, when I
return home, I will be able to place a photo with Oliver North and me
next to the one I am now looking at again.
Moreover,
these thoughts last week reminded me that while I have written several
poems concerning my son's service . . . I never wrote one specifically
about his and Oliver North's cherished Marine Corps.
So, I hope active
and veteran Marines along with their loved ones, friends, and fellow
Americans will like my poem,
The U.S.
Marines, as it honors all of them . . . past, present, and future.
And speaking of my return visit to Branson, Missouri, I invite you to
read my poem,
In
The Heart Of America. I really hope every American will experience
Branson one day . . . as it will be a memorable one. I also hope veterans or loved ones of
veterans will share an
article, poem,
photo, and/or
story about their Veterans Day experience for
listing at USA Patriotism! I especially
encourage children and grandchildren of veterans from
America's Greatest Generation to do so . . . as
a permanent tribute to them that they too can enjoy for
their remaining years!
