Chinook Pilot and Engineer Discuss Deployment at FOB Fenty - Afghanistan
April 30, 2012 - Few may know that Forward Operating Base Fenty near Jalalabad in
eastern Afghanistan was the launch point of one of Operation
Enduring Freedom's most storied missions, the May 2011 raid that
killed 9-11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden.
In recognition of the one
year anniversary of the raid Pilot CW2 William Haynes and flight
engineer SGT Peter Tuccil, who operate CH-47 (Chinooks) and the
aircraft used in the raid, discuss flying in the air space that the
Bin Laden raid team used. They talk about what it's like to conduct
night air assaults in rugged conditions and what went through their
minds when they first heard about the raid.
