July 30, 2016 - U.S. Marines from
III MEF and members of the Japan Ground-Self Defense Force
execute an amphibious beach assault at Pyramid Rock, Marine
Corps Base Hawaii during of Rim of the Pacific 2016 (RIMPAC
16).
RIMPAC is the world's largest
international maritime exercise, and provides a unique
training opportunity that helps participants foster and
sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to
ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's
oceans.
This year's RIMPAC exercise is the 25th in the series that began in 1971.
Twenty-six nations, 45 surface ships, five submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel will participate. This year's exercise includes units or personnel from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, People's Republic of China, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom and the United States.
