July 18, 2016 - U.S. Marines and
Mexican sailors conduct mechanized assault training during
the Southern California portion of Rim of the Pacific 2016
aboard Camp Pendleton, California. The mechanized assault
training provides ally nations the opportunity to integrate
and communicate with each other for future operations. Units
participating in the exercise were Marines with India
Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 3rd Assault Amphibian
Battalion and service members with the Mexican navy.
RIMPAC is the world's largest
international maritime exercise, and provides a unique
training opportunity that helps participants foster and
sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to
ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's
oceans.
This year's RIMPAC exercise is the 25th in the series that began in 1971.
Twenty-six nations, 45 surface ships, five submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel will participate. This year's exercise includes units or personnel from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, People's Republic of China, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom and the United States.
