Introduction The history behind the tabs in the Army has brought about a sense of pride and
special recognition when they are worn.
Airborne The Airborne tab is worn by those Soldiers assigned to one of the elite Airborne
units in the Army. Airborne units are set up to be quickly moved by aircraft and
dropped into battle.
Honor Guard The Honor Guard tab is worn by Soldiers selected for special ceremonial units.
These Soldiers are highly motivated and must uphold the highest standards in the
Army.
Mountain The Mountain tab is worn by those Soldiers assigned to the elite Mountain units.
These units specialize in fighting under harsh terrain and weather conditions.
President's Hundred The President's Hundred tab is worn by the elite Soldiers who qualify as one of
the top 100 shooters in pistol and rifle marksmanship.
Ranger The Ranger tab is worn by those elite Soldiers
who have passed the Ranger
School. Rangers are highly trained, rapid response special operations Soldiers.
Sapper The Sapper tab is worn by those elite Soldiers
who have passed the Sapper
Leader Course. Sappers are combat engineers who advance to the front lines with
infantry units.
Special Forces The Special Forces tab is worn by Soldiers who have completed the qualification
course. These Soldiers are considered the most specialized experts in
unconventional warfare.
