Controller Qualifications
July 23, 2014 -
Seven personnel from 16 Field Regiment are embedded with
elements of 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (5 ANGLICO),
United States Marine Corps, normally based in Okinawa. The
Kiwis are obtaining their USAF Joint Terminal Attack
Controller (JTAC)
qualifications and are broken up amongst various Firepower
Control Teams operations, and in this training scenario at
Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island, the Kiwis were
directing F/A-18 Hornets, an UH-1 Iroquois gunship and AH-1
Cobra attack helicopter in a live fire exercise.

Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Twenty-two
nations, 49 ships, six submarines, more than 200
aircraft and 25,000 personnel participated in RIMPAC
which is a multinational maritime exercise held
biannually in and around the Hawaiian Islands and
Southern California. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th exercise in
the series that began in 1971.
