December 19, 2008 -- International Space Station Crew Pays
Tribute to the First Circumnavigation of the Moon.
Aboard the International Space Station,
Expedition 18 Commander Mike Fincke and Flight Engineer Sandy Magnus paid tribute to
the crew of Apollo 8 in commemorating the 40th anniversary
of the flight of Frank Borman, James Lovell and Bill Anders,
who became the first humans to orbit the moon, in a downlink
message received Dec. 9, 2008.
Borman, Lovell and Anders launched on Dec.
21, 1968, and entered orbit around the moon on Christmas
Eve. They returned to Earth on Dec. 27, 1968
