Despite serious wounds, on October 12, 1952, U.S. Army Private First Class
Ernest West fought off enemy forces after his squad was ambushed,
while evacuating wounded soldiers three times under withering fire
and bursting shells near Sataeri, Korea.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor on January 12, 1954.
