WWII Veteran Paul Hallman Sr. Finally Recognized After 70 Years

Command Sgt. Maj., presents 92 year old Paul R. Hallman Sr., World War II
Army-Air Force veteran and former P.O.W. his four awards in a ceremony in his
honor at the 108th Training Command (IET) Headquarters in Charlotte, NC on Aug.
16, 2014.
Hallman received the medals including the
Distinguished Flying Cross one day shy of the 70th anniversary of his
43rd combat flight during World War II. On that flight, Hallman, who
served as an engineer on a B24J “Liberator”, and his crew were shot down
while performing a bombing mission over a Ploesti, Romania, oil
refinery. Hallman and several other survivors of the flight were
captured by German forces and held in Romania for several months until
they were liberated by the Russian army and returned to American forces
later that year.
