While conducting combat operations
against a hostile force, U.S. Army Sp4c. Charles Hagemeister's platoon suddenly came under heavy attack from
three sides by an enemy
force occupying well concealed, fortified positions and supported by
machine guns and mortars in Binh Dinh Province, South
Vietnam, on March 20, 1967. Specialist Charles Hagemeister
took charge of his platoon, tending to the wounded and destroying
enemy positions.
On May 14, 1968, Charles Hagemeister was awarded the Medal of Honor.
