Walter Ehlers was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at Goville, France in June of 1944. Through the D-Day invasion and into the days after Walter Ehlers led his 12 man squad from the beaches and trenches of the coast to Goville, France.

There he eliminated enemy machine gun positions and during the heat of the firefight rescued a fallen comrade.
