The night is long, and the night
is dark.
The enemy comes into our park
The dark is broken, by flare and flash
Sparks of light that dance and crash
Torn by roar and flame and din
Wave on wave, they try again
Wave by wave, they fall and sink
Into a river where they leave it pink
The water spurts, and the water gouts.
The projectiles land, in great big spouts
Oh what a sight, when you can see
A land of nightmares and the enemy
The battle flows all through the night
But brings no relief in the Morning light
When at last the tide does turn
It brings no joy, only sorrow earned
Time has passed, and through the years
Memories return as well as tears
When at last we go beyond
We'll meet again those of whom we'd grew fond
Memories grow dim and time as well
But cannot heal the pain of those friends who fell. |
