Thoughts From My Brother On the USS Repose In Vietnam-1966 | |
| The postman brought me a long letter today, It was from my brother who is far away. It came from a Navy ship far out at sea. He is fighting there in Viet Nam, you see. For the thoughts of a serviceman it will show: "I hear, Sis, there was another march today, Listen to what a fighting guy has to say. We must fight here in this foreign land today To keep Communism from taking us someday. I am proud and glad and feel an honor to be In the Navy here in Viet Nam at sea. My job will help keep the great USA free. That is just what our aim is here, you see. The thousands of us guys in this troubled land For the country we love, we're taking a stand. We want her freedom banner to keep waving high, And to keep her freedom, we'll fight till we die. We love our own great big USA, Protest marchers and speakers, hear what I say, Listen to this sailor on a ship at sea -- I am fighting for you-- not only me. My prayer is, may God change indifferent ones heart That they too will be willing to do their part. In this fight for freedom, please take a stand-- Stand up for the government of this great land; Count your many blessings--name them one by one, And you will plainly see what all God has done. We have more freedom than any other place, For I've been everywhere except outer space. Thank God, you people, for America free-- Ever free our armed services will make her be. Do not protest our stand we are taking here-- Give us boys who are fighting a great big cheer. Put down that protest flag you are holding now-- Lift your eyes to God and your head humbly bow. Yes, each march, card burned and speech against our stand Is just like a bomb in each enemy hand. The enemy takes those incidents with joy, On the front lines, It hurts each USA boy. Can't you see for us to keep our liberty, We must all stand up for our land proudly. We, everyone, must have patriotism To keep our Country free from Communism. Each boy here his life he is willing to give, So the American way will ever live. You can help us here our battle to win, By prayer and standing up for us now and then. Salute the great old Flag of our USA, And lift your head high as you sing out today, 'America, God shed his grace on thee, Crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to sea.' From on the front firing lines to you I say-- Yes, by all means, you have a big march today, Hold many USA flags and banners high, Sing loud and cheer our Country as you go by. Sing, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, too, Thank God we have each and everyone of you. Please get back to God and love of our country, It will help us on front lines to Victory-- With you each praying and cheering for us too We boys here fighting will pull us right on through. We shall overcome Communism, I say, We must not let them take Americanism, For dead we'd rather be than under Communism." These words were so true, as I read each word through, I vowed to God and country I would be true. What wonderful thoughts from a sailor at sea I thank God for such a brother as he. Thank God I am an American so true Thank God for men who have fought, and died for us, too. | By Ollivette Billiot Copyright 1966 December 4, 2006 |
