Soldier's Last Words |
|
|
I look upon a soldier's face,
and see worry in his eye,
Feel a sharp pain in my chest,
but too strong to ever cry.
I hear a voice say its ok,
but it is not his own,
a voice that calms me,
is saying you are not alone.
A hand reaches out to me,
and touches me on my head,
and when I try to reach for it,
I look and my hands red.
I grab the soldier by the arm,
and tell him that I'm fine,
there's nothing you can do for me.
Now, it is my time.
He leans over to comfort me,
but I comfort him instead,
telling him of old times,
the lasting memories in my head.
I look at him into his eyes,
and ask him one last time,
bro can you tell mom I love her,
and that I'll be doing just fine.
See, I took the final moments,
to say a prayer for you and me,
and God is here right now,
to help make my soul free. |
