Scattered Ashes country as flag
Scattered in the ashes in a land so far away
Lay the remnants of a war fought by our soldiers
An attempt to make wrongs turn into rights

How do we judge the ultimate cost of this fight
It's so much more than loss of life
We've lost our confidence in ourselves
We fear any enemy we cannot see

Our boys and girls are being sent out and turned old before their time
The things that they are forced to see should ne'er cross any eyes
This enemy is ugly and fights an unfair fight
No rules of engagement for him just pure unadulterated hate

Our soldiers fight on gallantly as their friends around them die
Loss of limb is second nature as the mines blow up all day
A village of civilians suddenly filled with firefight as the enemy takes control
They care not who is innocent, life matters not to them

How do we fight a fight when our enemy cannot be seen
They hide behind the faade of innocence men, women and even children
And when we least expect it, they come out to kill and maim

Now this fight has taken on a life of its very own
It's crossed over oceans and attacked us at our very homes
Men hide in plain sight and walk our streets so free
Then when we're at our weakest they strike our very souls

But what this unseen enemy failed to recognize is the pride in every American
And the desire to make things right
No matter how they feel about the neighbor down the street
When an enemy puts a foot upon our land, all squabbles become obsolete

We are a country full of pride
We band together against all odds
We will not let others dictate our lives
That choice is only ours to make

Don't laugh at us or mock us
Our temper you will flare
We'll try to settle things quietly at first
But then your very lives will be ended by the grip of our iron hands

Scattered in the ashes in a land now not so far away
Lay the remnants of a war fought not only by our soldiers
But all the citizens on the street
Our attempt to make the wrongs all right
